Portrait of the artist as a young woman. Die Schauspielerin in Lilly Stepaneks „Malina“ und in Ingeborg Bachmanns Werk
Der Titel von Ingeborg Bachmanns Roman „Malina“ gab zu vielerlei Deutungen Anlaß. Der Aufsatz weist die Herkunft des Titels als Übernahme einer 1947 in Wien erschienenen ‚Theatergeschichte‘ von Lilly Stepanek nach. Ausgehend von diesem Fund wird dem Bild der Schauspielerin und der damit verbundenen Weiblichkeits- und Kunstkritik in Ingeborg Bachmanns Prosawerk nachgegangen.
The title of Ingeborg Bachmann’s novel „Malina“ has given rise to a number of interpretations. This article shows that the title was adopted from an autobiographical text ‚Theatergeschichte‘ by Lilly Stepanek which was published in Vienna in 1947. This discovery leads to an exploration of the depiction of the actress and the criticism of femininity and art contained in Bachmann’s prose work.
