Zu den Quellen von Veldekes „Servatius“
In der Forschung wird angenommen, die Quelle von Veldekes „Servatius“ sei die sog. Vita, eine gekürzte Fassung der Gesta von ca. 1130. Die Vita geht aber nur teilweise auf die Gesta, teilweise aber auch auf den Actus des Jocundus (bis 1088) zurück. Wilhelms Hypothese, Veldeke habe als Zweitquelle die Gesta benutzt, ist durch die Annahme zu ersetzen, dass seine Zweitquelle der Actus war.
In the literature it is assumed that the source of Veldeke’s “Servatius” is the so-called Vita, a shortened version of the Gesta dating from around 1130. However, the Vita is only partly based on the Gesta, in part it goes back to Jocundus’s Actus (completed by 1088). Wilhelm’s hypothesis that Veldeke used the Gesta as his second source should be replaced by the assumption that his second source was the Actus.
