Konrad IV. und die „Weltchronik“ Rudolfs von Ems: ewiclich memorial und imperiale Agenda vor neuem Quellenhorizont

Im Zentrum des Beitrags steht eine Re-Lektüre des König Konrad-Prologs zum 5. Weltalter in der „Weltchronik“ Rudolfs von Ems. Der rezente Neufund von Urkundenmaterial aus der Kanzlei Konrads IV. stützt dabei die These, dass der Dichter in der konkreten Situation des Jahres 1251 über allgemeine Panegyrik und Herrscherpropaganda hinaus für die Italienpläne des Staufers zu werben sucht, die er als konsequente Anverwandlung des heilsgeschichtlichen Auftrags und des dynastischen Erbes Konrads deutet. Das ewiclich memorial der „Weltchronik“ enthüllt sich so auch als aktuelles Memorandum. Im Zuge der effektvollen Inszenierung des Herrschers und seiner universalen Stellung reflektiert der Chronist überdies höchst virtuos sein eigenes Tun und seine Rolle als Künstler, womit das Binnenproöm zur memoria für Konrad und Rudolf zugleich wird.
This article presents a re-reading of the King Conrad Prologue to the 5th World Age in the “World Chronicle” by Rudolf of Ems. The recent discovery of documentary material from the chancellery of Conrad IV supports the thesis that the poet goes beyond a general panegyric and propaganda on behalf of the ruler in the concrete situation of the year 1251 and seeks to promote the Staufers’ plans for Italy, which he interprets as a consistent furthering of the Christian mission and Conrad’s dynastic inheritance. The “eternal memorial” of World Chronicle is thus also revealed as a memorandum of contemporary relevance. In the course of the effective portrayal of the ruler and his universal position, the chronicler also reflects with great virtuosity on own actions and his role as an artist. In this way the internal prooemium takes on the role of a memorial for both Conrad and Rudolf.
