Die Zeit der Aufrichtigkeit. Rousseaus „La Nouvelle Héloïse“ und Goethes „Die pilgernde Törin“

Die nachstehenden Überlegungen gehen von der Beobachtung aus, dass Aufrichtigkeit im Liebesdiskurs des 18. Jahrhunderts grundsätzlich im Wahnsinn endet. Sie führen dies auf eine paradoxe Zeitstruktur zurück, mit der die aufrichtige Kommunikation das liebende Subjekt zwangsläufig konfrontiert, und fragen nach der Virulenz dieser Paradoxie in unterschiedlichen Gattungen. Dabei wird das Modell anhand des Rousseau’schen Briefromans erarbeitet, anschließend aber bewusst auf eine Goethe-Novelle übertragen, die einen Aufrichtigkeitsdiskurs (vor)führt, der auf Kommunikation zum einen gar nicht mehr angewiesen scheint, die ihr immanenten Paradoxien dadurch zum anderen aber gerade steigert und sie erst in seiner eigenen Form als Novelle zu einem Ende kommen lässt.
The discussion in the following article proceeds from the observation that in the 18th century discourse on love, sincerity invariably ends in insanity. This is attributed to the paradoxical structure of the time, in which sincere communication inevitably confronts the loving subject. This is followed by a discussion of the virulence of this paradox in different genres. The model which is developed is based on Rousseau’s epistolary novel, but then consciously transferred to a novella by Goethe which presents a discourse of sincerity which on the one hand seems to be no longer dependent on communication, but which on the other hand thereby increases the paradoxes inherent in communication and only brings it to a conclusion in its own form as a novella.
